Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
I swear by the daybreak, 1 and ten nights (of pilgrimage or the last ten days of Ramadan), 2 By the even and odd (contrasted); 3 and by the night when it moves on towards daybreak (reward and retribution in the next life is an absolute reality). 4 There is indeed in them (the above oaths) sufficient proofs for men of understanding (and that, they should avoid all kinds of sins and disbeliefs, etc.)! 5 Dost thou not consider how thy Lord dealt with (the tribe of) A'ad, 6 [With] Iram - who had lofty pillars, 7 the like of which was never created in the countries? 8 And with Thamud who hewed out rocks in the vale, 9 And with Pharaoh of the tent pegs 10 Those who rebelled in the cities, 11 So they made great mischief therein? 12 Wherefore thy Lord poured on them the scourge of His torment. 13 Most surely your Lord is watching. 14 As for man, when his Lord tests him by exalting him and bestowing His bounties upon him, he says: “My Lord has exalted me.” 15 But when He tries him by restraining his means, he says: "My Lord despises me." 16 But nay, nay, [O men, consider all that you do and fail to do:] you are not generous towards the orphan, 17 and you do not urge one another to feed the needy, 18 And you devour (others') inheritance greedily, 19 And love wealth with all your heart. 20 Most certainly – when the earth is smashed and blown to bits. 21 And when the command of your Lord comes – and the angels row by row, 22 and Gehenna (Hell) is brought near on that Day the human will remember, and how shall the Reminder be for him? 23 He will say, “Alas – if only I had sent some good deeds ahead, during my lifetime!” 24 On that Day no one will punish as He punishes, 25 and Allah will bind as none other can bind. 26 O satisfied soul, 27 Return towards your Lord – you being pleased with Him, and He pleased with you! 28 Enter thou among My righteous bondmen! 29 Enter My Paradise." 30
