Commemorate Abraham in the Book: He was upright, a prophet. 41 When he said to his father; O my father! why do you worship what neither hears nor sees, nor does it avail you in the least: 42 O my father, to me has come such knowledge as never came to you. So follow me that I may show you the right path. 43 Father, serve not Satan; surely Satan is a rebel against the All-merciful. 44 "O my father! Verily! I fear lest a torment from the Most Beneficent (Allah) overtake you, so that you become a companion of Shaitan (Satan) (in the Hell-fire)." [Tafsir Al-Qurtubi] 45 The father said: "Abraham, have you turned away from my gods? If you do not give this up, I shall stone you to death. Now begone from me forever." 46 [Abraham] said, "Peace will be upon you. I will ask forgiveness for you of my Lord. Indeed, He is ever gracious to me. 47 I shall withdraw from you and that unto which ye pray beside Allah, and I shall pray unto my Lord. It may be that, in prayer unto my Lord, I shall not be unblest. 48 Thus, when he left them and the (idols) they worshipped, We bestowed on him Isaac and Jacob, and made each of them a prophet, 49 And We granted to them of Our mercy, and We left (behind them) a truthful mention of eminence for them. 50
