Tell them the story of Abraham, 69 when he asked his father and his people, "What is that which you worship?" 70 They replied: "We worship idols and are devoted to them." 71 Said he: "Do [you really think that] they hear you when you invoke them, 72 or can they benefit or harm you?" 73 They said: "Nay, but we found our fathers doing thus (what we do)." 74 He said: "Do ye then see whom ye have been worshipping,- 75 You and your ancient forefathers? 76 are my enemies? Not so the Lord of the Universe. 77 Who created me, then He has shown me the way: 78 And Who feedeth me and watereth me. 79 "And when I am ill, it is He who cures me. 80 And Who causeth me to die, then giveth me life (again), 81 and who I am eager shall forgive me my offence on the Day of Doom. 82 Lord, grant me authority. Join me to the righteous ones. 83 And give unto me a good report in later generations. 84 And place me among the inheritors of the Garden of Delight, 85 And forgive my father, verily he is of the erring; 86 “And do not disgrace me on the day when everyone will be raised.” 87 The day on which property will not avail, nor sons 88 Save him who bringeth unto Allah a whole heart. 89 And the Garden will be brought nigh for those who ward off (evil). 90 And the (Hell) Fire will be placed in full view of the erring. 91 And it shall be said unto them where is that which ye were wont to worship? 92 apart from God? Do they help you or help themselves?' 93 Then they shall be pitched into it, they and the perverse 94 "And the whole hosts of Iblis together. 95 They will say while they dispute therein, 96 'By Allah, we were certainly in clear error, 97 when we deemed you [false deities] equal to the Sustainer of all the worlds 98 “And none misled us but the guilty.” 99 Now we have none to intercede for us, 100 "'Nor a single friend to feel (for us). 101 "'Now if we only had a chance of return we shall truly be of those who believe!'" 102 Lo! herein is indeed a portent, yet most of them are not believers! 103 And lo, thy Lord! He is indeed the Mighty, the Merciful. 104
