He Frowned ('Abasa)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 when the blind came to him. 2 And what would make you know that he would purify himself, 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and that the admonition might profit him? 4 As for him who thinks himself self-sufficient, 5 to him didst thou give thy whole attention, 6 though it is not thy concern, if he does not cleanse himself. 7 And for him who came to you striving, 8 and fearfully, 9 him didst thou disregard! 10 By no means (should it be so)! For it is indeed a Message of instruction: 11 So whoso wills may give heed to it. 12 (This Quran) is also recorded in honorable books, 13 Exalted, purified, 14 by the hands of the noble, virtuous, 15 and angelic scribes. 16 May (the disbelieving) human being be condemned! What makes him disbelieve? 17 [Does man ever consider] out of what substance [God] creates him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm He creates him, and thereupon determines his nature, 19 Then He makes the Path easy for him; 20 Then He causes him to die, then assigns to him a grave, 21 Then when He pleases, He will bring him back to life. 22 By no means he performed not that which He had commanded him. 23 Let the human being think about (how We produce) his food. 24 We poured down rain abundantly, 25 And We split the earth in fragments, 26 We make the grain grow out of it, 27 And grapes and herbage, 28 and olive trees and date-palms, 29 And enclosed gardens luxuriant. 30 and fruits, and pastures, 31 [As] enjoyment for you and your grazing livestock. 32 So when the deafening Shout arrives, 33 upon the day when a man shall flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father 35 wife and sons, 36 Each man will have enough cares that day. 37 Some faces on that Day shall be beaming with happiness, 38 laughing, and rejoicing, 39 And other faces that Day will be dust-stained, 40 Veiled in darkness, 41 It is they, the disbelievers, the sinners. 42
