The Comet (Al-Taareq)
17 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Town (Al-Balad) before The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By oath of the heaven, and by oath of the nightly arriver. 1 And what could make thee conceive what it is that comes in the night? 2 The very brightly shining star! 3 No human soul but hath a guardian over it. 4 So let man consider from what he is created. 5 He is created from a water gushing forth. 6 issuing from between the backbone and the breastbone: 7 Now, verily, He [who thus creates man in the first instance] is well able to bring him back [to life] 8 On a Day whereon secrets shall be out. 9 Then he shall have no power nor any helper. 10 By the sky with its returning rain, 11 And the earth which splits (with the growth of trees and plants), 12 It is surely a decisive utterance; 13 And it is not amusement. 14 They are planning a scheme, 15 And I secretly plan. 16 So bear with unbelievers with patience, and give them respite for a while. 17
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
