Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
Has there come to you the narration of the overwhelming (i.e. the Day of Resurrection); 1 Many faces will be contrite on that day, 2 Laboring, toiling, 3 They will enter in the hot blazing Fire, 4 The while they are given, to drink, of a boiling hot spring, 5 They shall have no food except bitter dry thorns 6 Which will neither fatten nor avail against hunger. 7 On that very Day some faces shall be radiant with joy, 8 with their striving well-pleased, 9 In a high Garden. 10 In which they will not hear any lewd speech. 11 Countless springs will flow therein, 12 [and] there will be thrones [of happiness] raised high, 13 Goblets set, 14 And cushions lined up 15 and carpets outspread. 16 DO, THEN, they [who deny resurrection] never gaze at the clouds pregnant with water, [and observe] how they are created? 17 And the heaven, how it is reared aloft, 18 and how the mountains were firmly fixed? 19 And the earth, how it was spread out? 20 So remind, [O Muhammad]; you are only a reminder. 21 Thou art not over them a warden. 22 However, those who turn away and disbelieve, 23 God shall chastise him with the greatest chastisement. 24 Indeed, to Us they shall return, 25 Then verily, for Us will be their reckoning. 26
