Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Has there come to you the narration of the overwhelming (i.e. the Day of Resurrection); 1 On that day the faces of some people will be humbly cast down, 2 Labouring (hard in the worldly life by worshipping others besides Allah), weary (in the Hereafter with humility and disgrace). 3 Burning in the scorching fire, 4 and will be made to drink from a fiercely boiling spring. 5 No food will there be for them but a poisonous thorny plant, 6 that will neither nourish nor satisfy their hunger. 7 [Other] faces, that Day, will show pleasure. 8 well pleased with their striving, 9 in a garden sublime, 10 wherein they will not hear any vain talk. 11 A gushing fountain shall be there 12 Therein shall be couches elevated! 13 And chosen goblets. 14 and cushions arrayed in rows, 15 And silken carpets spread. 16 What, do they not reflect upon how the camel was created? 17 how the heavens are raised up high, 18 and how the mountains were firmly fixed? 19 And at the earth, how it is outspread? 20 So, [O Prophet] exhort them: your task is only to exhort, 21 You are not charged to oversee them. 22 But whosoever will turn back and disbelieve 23 Allah will punish him with direst punishment. 24 To Us they will all return. 25 Then indeed only upon Us is their reckoning. 26
