The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
A supplicant asked for a punishment bound to happen 1 the unbelievers which none can prevent. 2 From Allah, the Lord of the ways of ascent. 3 by which the angels and the Spirit ascend to Him in one Day the duration of which is fifty thousand years. 4 But be patient (O Muhammad) with a patience fair to see. 5 Verily! They see it (the torment) afar off, 6 But We see it (quite) near. 7 On that Day the heavens shall become like molten brass, 8 And the mountains will be like wool, 9 and [when] no friend will ask about his friend, 10 Though they shall be made to see one another. Fain would the guilty ransom himself from the torment of that Day by his children. 11 his companion (wife), his brother, 12 and his kinsfolk who gave him shelter, 13 And all those who are on the earth, to save himself. 14 But never. It is pure white flame 15 Taking away (burning completely) the head skin! 16 It calls out to him who reverted and turned away. 17 And masseth and then hoardeth. 18 ۞ Indeed, mankind was created anxious: 19 [As a rule,] whenever misfortune touches him, he is filled with self-pity; 20 And refraining, when good reaches him. 21 except those that pray, 22 Those who remain steadfast to their prayer; 23 And those in whose wealth there is a known right, 24 For him who begs and for him who is denied (good) 25 And those who accept the truth of the judgment day 26 and are fearful of the punishment of their Lord; 27 the punishment of their Lord is not something for them to feel secure of, 28 And those who guard their chastity (i.e. private parts from illegal sexual acts). 29 Except from their wives or those their right hands possess, for indeed, they are not to be blamed - 30 but whoever goes beyond this is a transgressor; 31 and who are faithful to their trusts and to their pledges: 32 and those who are upright in their testimonies; 33 And those who of their prayer are observant. 34 Those shall be in Gardens, high-honoured. 35
