Didst thou (O Muhammad) observe him who turned away, 33 And gave a little, then stopped (giving)? 34 Is with him knowledge of the unseen so that he seeth? 35 Has he not been informed of what is in the Scrolls of Moses, 36 and of Abraham, who to his trust was true: 37 To wit, that a burthened soul shall not bear the burthen of another. 38 And that for man shall be naught save that wherefor he endeavoureth. 39 And that his striving shall soon be seen- 40 whereupon he shall be requited for it with the fullest requital; 41 And that thy Lord, He is the goal; 42 And that it is He who makes [one] laugh and weep 43 And that it is He (Allah) Who causes death and gives life; 44 It is He who has created spouses, male and female, 45 from an ejected drop of sperm; 46 And that on Him is the bringing forth a second time; 47 And that it is He who enriches and suffices 48 and that He is the Lord of (the star) Sirius, 49 And that He destroyed the former (tribe of) A'ad, 50 And (the tribe of) Thamud He spared not; 51 and the people of Noah; they were the most unjust and rebellious people. 52 and the Subverted City He also overthrew, 53 And covered them by that which He covered. 54 On which then of your Lord's signs do you cast doubt? 55 This is a Warner, of the (series of) Warners of old! 56 The near event draws nigh. 57 None, except Allah, can avert it. 58 Do you then wonder at this recital (the Quran)? 59 And will ye laugh and not weep,- 60 And you are lost in play! 61 So make obeisance to Allah and serve (Him). ۩ 62
