The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
By the star when it goes down, (or vanishes). 1 your companion is not in error nor has he gone astray. 2 And he does not say anything by his own desire. 3 It is only an Inspiration that is inspired. 4 something that a very mighty one has imparted to him: 5 [an angel] endowed with surpassing power, who in time manifested himself in his true shape and nature, 6 And he was on the horizon of the highest heaven. 7 then came down close 8 two bows' length away, or nearer, 9 Thus He revealed unto His bondman whatsoever He revealed. 10 The heart lied not (in seeing) what it saw. 11 Will you dispute with him what he saw? 12 He saw Him indeed another time 13 By the lote-tree of the utmost boundary, 14 Nigh unto which is the Garden of Abode. 15 When the tree was covered with a covering, 16 The sight turned not aside, nor it exceeded. 17 He certainly saw of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 Have you ever thought about al-Lat and al-Uzza, 19 And another, the third (goddess), Manat? 20 Is the male for you and for Him the female? 21 This indeed is an unjust division! 22 They are nothing but some names that you have coined, you and your forefathers – Allah has not sent any proof for them; they follow only guesses and their own desires; whereas the guidance from their Lord has come to them. 23 Or is there for man whatever he wishes? 24 But to Allah belongs the last (Hereafter) and the first (the world). 25
