Nay! By the moon 32 by the retreating night, 33 and by the day when it dawns (with its radiance), 34 it is one of the greatest trials, 35 A warning to mankind, 36 alike to every one of you, who want to go forward or hang back. 37 Each soul is held in pledge for what it earns, 38 Except those of the right hand 39 Sitting in the gardens, asking 40 about the guilty ones: 41 "what led you into hell?" 42 They will answer: “We were not among those who observed Prayer, 43 we fed not the needy, 44 and we were wont to indulge in sinning together with all [the others] who indulged in it; 45 and belied the Day of Recompense 46 until the Inevitable End [death] overtook us." 47 The mediation of no mediators will avail them then. 48 Why then do they turn away from the admonition 49 like startled wild donkeys 50 Fleeing from a hunter, or a lion, or a beast of prey. 51 Nay, but everyone of them desireth that he should be given open pages (from Allah). 52 No! But they do not fear the Hereafter. 53 Never so, as this is a reminder. 54 Let him who will take heed: 55 And they will not receive admonition unless Allah wills; He (Allah) is the One, deserving that mankind should be afraid of, and should be dutiful to Him, and should not take any Ilah (God) along with Him, and He is the One Who forgives (sins). 56
