The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
56 verses, revealed in Mecca after Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil) before The Key (Al-Faatehah)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O thou wrapped up (in the mantle)! 1 Arise and warn, 2 And thine Lord magnify! 3 thy robes purify 4 stay away from sins 5 And bestow not favors that you may receive again with increase, 6 But for your Lord be patient. 7 For when the trumpet is sounded, 8 that very Day shall be a day of anguish, 9 Far from easy for those without Faith. 10 Leave Me alone [to deal] with him whom I have created alone, 11 and to whom I have granted resources vast, 12 And sons to be by his side!- 13 and whom I have provided with every resource, 14 Yet he desires that I should give more. 15 By no means! surely he offers opposition to Our communications. 16 We shall make him suffer the torment of hell without relief. 17 Lo! He reflected, and determined -- 18 So may he be destroyed [for] how he deliberated. 19 Again, may he be cursed how he plotted; 20 He looked (at others); 21 frowned and scowled, 22 and he turned his back and behaved arrogantly 23 And said: This is naught else than magic from of old; 24 This is nothing but the word of a mortal!" 25 Soon will I cast him into Hell-Fire! 26 And what do you know what Hell is? 27 It lets nothing remain and leaves nothing [unburned], 28 It scorches people's skin 29 Over it are Nineteen. 30 We have made only angels as the keepers of the fire (for they are the strongest in carrying out Our commands). Our informing (people) of the numbers of these angels is a trial for the disbelievers. It gives more certainty to the people of the Book and strengthens the faith of the believers. The people of the Book and the believers have no doubt about it. We have fixed the number to make the disbelievers and those whose hearts are sick say, "What does God mean by such a parable?" Thus, God guides and causes to go astray whomever He wants. No one knows about the army of your Lord except He Himself. This parable is a reminder for mankind. 31
