The Rolling (Al-Takweer)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
When the sun is overthrown, 1 When the stars fall, losing their lustre; 2 when the mountains shall be set in motion, 3 when ten-month pregnant camels are left untended, 4 the wild beasts are herded together, 5 the oceans are brought to a boil, 6 and when all human beings are coupled [with their deeds,] 7 And when the girl-child who was buried alive is asked. 8 for what sin she was slain, 9 and when the scrolls of (men's) deeds shall be unfolded, 10 the heavens are unveiled, 11 And when Hell-fire shall be kindled to fierce ablaze. 12 And when Paradise is brought near, 13 then shall each person know what he has brought along. 14 But nay! I swear by the stars, 15 That run their course (and) hide themselves, 16 by the night swarming, 17 And by the dawn when it breathes 18 Verily this is the word of a most honourable Messenger, 19 with strength endowed, secure with Him who in almightiness is enthroned 20 obeyed by (all creatures) and faithful to His trust. 21 For, this fellow-man of yours is not a madman: 22 he truly beheld [the angel - beheld] him on the clear horizon; 23 and he is not one to begrudge others the knowledge [of whatever has been revealed to him] out of that which is beyond the reach of human Perception. 24 Nor is it the word of an evil spirit accursed. 25 Where to are you then heading? 26 This is naught else than a reminder unto creation, 27 for everyone of you who wishes to follow the Straight Way; 28 But you cannot will it unless God, the Lord of the Universe, so wills it [to show you that way]. 29
