The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ When the inevitable event comes, 1 no soul will deny its coming. 2 (Many) will it bring low; (many) will it exalt; 3 When the earth will be shaken with a terrible shake. 4 and the mountains are totally shattered and crumble to pieces 5 and become like scattered dust particles, 6 [on that Day] you shall be divided into three groups. 7 Companions of the Right (O Companions of the Right!) 8 Companions of the Left (O Companions of the Left!) 9 The foremost ones (in faith and virtue) - the foremost ones in receiving their reward. 10 They shall be the nearest to God. 11 In the Gardens of Pleasure, 12 A numerous company from among the first, 13 And a few of the later peoples, 14 On thrones decorated, 15 facing one another. 16 immortal youths shall go about them 17 Cups and decanters, beakers full of sparkling wine, 18 They shall not be affected with headache thereby, nor shall they get exhausted, 19 they will also go about them with the fruits of which they may choose, 20 And with flesh of fowls from that which they desire. 21 They will have maidens with large, lovely black and white eyes, 22 The likes unto pearls hidden. 23 A reward for what they used to do. 24 Not frivolity will they hear therein, nor any taint of ill,- 25 only the words of peace and tranquillity. 26 NOW AS FOR those who have attained to righteousness - what of those who have attained to righteousness? 27 They will live amid the thornless lot trees 28 And [banana] trees layered [with fruit] 29 And spreading shade, 30 And water gushing, 31 And fruits numberless, 32 never-failing and never out of reach. 33 And on couches or thrones, raised high. 34 Surely We have made them to grow into a (new) growth, 35 We have made them virgins, 36 Loving (their husbands only), equal in age. 37 For the fellows on the right hand. 38
