The Cheaters (Al-Mutaffifeen)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
WOE UNTO THOSE who give short measure: 1 Those who, when they have to receive by measure from men, demand full measure, 2 but who, when they measure or weigh for others, give less than their due. 3 Do they not think that they will be called to account?- 4 on a Great Day, 5 the Day when all men shall stand before the Sustainer of all the worlds? 6 NAY, VERILY, the record of the wicked is indeed [set down] in a mode inescapable! 7 What could let you know what the Sijjeen is! 8 (There is) a Register (fully) inscribed. 9 Woe on that Day unto the beliers 10 Who call the Day of judgement a lie! 11 None belies it except every guilty sinner. 12 who, when Our verses are recited to him, says: “Mere tales of olden times!” 13 By no means! but on their hearts is the stain of the (ill) which they do! 14 By no means! Verily on that Day from their Lord they will be shut out. 15 and then, behold, they shall enter the blazing fire 16 and it will be said to them: 'This is that which you belied' 17 Surely the ledger of the pious will be in 'Illiyun (heights above the heights). 18 And what could make thee conceive what that mode most lofty will be? 19 The record is a sealed text. 20 which the angels placed near Allah to safeguard. 21 Verily the virtuous shall be in Delight, 22 resting on couches, looking around. 23 On their faces you will see the glow of beatitude. 24 They will be given a drink of pure wine whereon the seal [of God] will have been set, 25 The seal thereof will be of musk. And to this end let the aspirers aspire 26 With it will be (given) a mixture of Tasnim: 27 A fountain whereof will drink those brought nigh. 28 Behold, the sinners were laughing at the believers, 29 And wink one to another when they passed them; 30 and when they went back to their families, they went back jesting, 31 and when they saw them they said, 'Lo, these men are astray!' 32 No one has appointed them to watch over the believers. 33 But today the believers are laughing at the unbelievers; 34 On high couches, gazing. 35 Will not the disbelievers then be duly recompensed for their laughing at the believers? 36
