In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
O THOU enwrapped one! 1 Stay up the night long save a little 2 of one-half thereof - or make it a little less than that, 3 Or a little more, and recite the Qur'an slowly and distinctly. 4 Behold, We shall bestow upon thee a weighty message 5 Indeed, the first part of night is heavier in tread, and more upright in speech. 6 You have by day prolonged occupations. 7 And remember the Name of thy Lord, and devote thyself unto Him very devoutly. 8 Lord of the east and the west! No God is there but He! Wherefore take Him for thy trustee. 9 And bear patiently what they say and avoid them with a becoming avoidance. 10 Leave it to Me to deal with the deniers, who live a life of comfort, and bear with them a little longer. 11 for, behold, heavy fetters [await them] with Us, and a blazing fire, 12 And a food that chokes, and a painful torment. 13 On the Day the earth and the mountains will convulse and the mountains will become a heap of sand pouring down. 14 Verily We! We have sent unto you an apostle, a witness over you, even as We sent unto Fir'awn an apostle. 15 But Pharaoh disobeyed Our Messenger, so We seized him with a terrible seizing. 16 How then, if ye disbelieve, shall ye escape, on a Day which shall make children grey-headed? 17 [the Day] on which the skies shall be rent asunder, [and] His promise [of resurrection] fulfilled? 18 Verily this is a reminder. So let him who desires take the way to his Lord. 19
