Vanity (Al-Zukhruf)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Ha-Mim. [These letters are one of the miracles of the Quran, and none but Allah (Alone) knows their meanings]. 1 I swear by the Book that makes things clear: 2 Surely We have made it an Arabic Quran that you may understand. 3 And Verily, it (this Quran) is in the Mother of the Book (i.e. Al-Lauh Al-Mahfuz), before Us, indeed Exalted, full of Wisdom. 4 Shall We then take away from you the admonition because ye are a people extravagant? 5 How many Messengers did We send to the ancient people? 6 but whenever a prophet came to them, they mocked him, 7 so We destroyed those who were mightier than these; such was the example of the earlier peoples. 8 (Muhammad), if you ask them, "Who has created the heavens and the earth?" They will certainly say, "The Majestic and All-knowing God has created them". 9 Who hath made for you the earth a bed, and hath made for you paths therein that haply ye may be directed. 10 And Who sendeth down water from the sky in (due) measure, and We revive a dead land therewith. Even so will ye be brought forth; 11 And Who hath treated the pairs, all of them, and appointed for you from ships and cattle things whereon ye ride. 12 So that when you sit astride of them and think of the bounties of your Lord, you may say: "All glory to Him who subjugated these for us. We were incapable of doing so. 13 indeed, to our Lord we are turning' 14 And they allot to Him a portion of His bondmen! Lo! man is verily a mere ingrate. 15
