Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Ha-Mim. 1 The perspicuous Book is witness 2 We sent it down during a Blessed Night: for We (ever) wish to warn (against Evil). 3 Therein is decreed every affair of wisdom 4 at a behest from Ourselves: for, verily, We have always been sending [Our messages of guidance] 5 A mercy from thy Lord. Verily He! He is the Hearer, the Knower. 6 He is the Lord of heaven and earth and all that is between them, if only you would really believe, 7 There is no god but He; He gives life and makes to die; your Lord and the Lord of your fathers, the ancients. 8 Rather they are in doubt, playing. 9 Watch for the Day when the heaven will bring clear smoke, 10 Covering the people, this shall be a torment afflictive. 11 O our Sustainer, relieve us of suffering, for, verily, we [now] believe [in Thee]!" 12 But how will they take heed? Such are they that a Messenger came to them clearly expounding the Truth, 13 Yet they turn away from him and say: "Tutored (by others), a man possessed!" 14 Surely We will remove the punishment a little, (but) you will surely return (to evil). 15 The day when We will seize with the greatest seizure – We will indeed take revenge. 16 ۞ And verily We tried before them Pharaoh's folk, when there came unto them a noble messenger, 17 (and said): “Deliver to me Allah's servants. I am a trustworthy Messenger to you, 18 "And exalt not yourselves against God: for, verily, I come unto you with a manifest authority [from Him]; 19 and, behold, it is with my Sustainer - and your Sustainer - that I seek refuge against all your endeavours to revile me. 20 'But if so be that you believe me not, go you apart from me!' 21 Then he cried out to his Lord, "These are sinful people." 22 So depart thou with My bondmen by night; verily ye shall be pursued. 23 Leave the sea behind you parted; they are a host destined to be drowned." 24 How many of the gardens and fountains have they left! 25 And corn-fields and noble buildings, 26 and other bounties which they enjoyed yet left behind! 27 As such (it was). And We made other people inherit them. 28 And the heaven and the earth wept not for them, nor were they reprieved. 29
