Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
Has the story reached thee of the overwhelming (Event)? 1 Many faces will be contrite on that day, 2 toiling [under burdens of sin,] worn out [by fear,] 3 The while they enter the Blazing Fire,- 4 Drinking from a boiling spring, 5 There is no food for them except thorns of fire. 6 which will neither nourish nor satisfy hunger. 7 Some faces on that Day will be radiant, 8 With their endeavour well pleased. 9 In a high Garden. 10 hearing there no babble; 11 Therein will be a flowing spring, 12 therein uplifted couches 13 And drinking-cups ready placed, 14 and cushions ranged, 15 and outspread carpets. 16 What, do they not reflect upon how the camel was created? 17 And the sky: how it was raised high? 18 and how the mountains were firmly fixed? 19 And the earth, how it is spread? 20 Then remind them! Thou art only a reminder; 21 You are not a warden over them, 22 As for those who turn their back and disbelieve, 23 him will God cause to suffer the greatest suffering [in the life to come]: 24 Verily, to Us will be their return; 25 Then verily, for Us will be their reckoning. 26
