The nobles of Pharaoh said: "He surely is a clever magician. 109 "He wants to get you out of your land, so what do you advise?" 110 They said: "Put him and his brother off (awhile) and send out heralds to the cities 111 To bring each knowing wizard unto thee. 112 And the magicians came to Pharaoh and said: 'Shall we have a reward if we win?' 113 He answered: Yes, and surely ye shall be of those brought near (to me). 114 They said: O Moses! Either throw (first) or let us be the first throwers? 115 'Throw' he replied. And when they threw, they bewitched the people's eyes and terrified them, and produced great sorcery. 116 And We inspired to Moses, "Throw your staff," and at once it devoured what they were falsifying. 117 ۞ Thus was the Truth vindicated and that which they were doing was made vain. 118 And Pharaoh and his people were overcome right there and became debased. 119 And the magicians were obliged to fall prostrate. 120 They said: We believe in the Lord of the worlds, 121 The Lord of Musa and Harun. 122 Said Pharaoh, 'You have believed in Him before I gave you leave. Surely this is a device you have devised in the city that you may expel its people from it. Now you shall know! 123 "I will have your hands and feet on alternate sides cut off, and have you all crucified." 124 They answered: "We have (in any case) to go back to our Lord. 125 And you do not resent us except because we believed in the signs of our Lord when they came to us. Our Lord, pour upon us patience and let us die as Muslims [in submission to You]." 126
