Thamud denied the messengers 141 Behold, their brother Salih said to them: "Will you not fear (Allah)? 142 I am for you a faithful Messenger, 143 so fear God and obey me. 144 "No reward do I ask of you for it (my Message of Islamic Monotheism), my reward is only from the Lord of the 'Alamin (mankind, jinns and all that exists). 145 Shall ye be left secure in that which is here before us. 146 amidst the gardens, springs, 147 And cornfields and palm-trees having fine spadices? 148 Will you still hew your dwellings in the mountains? 149 Therefor keep your duty to Allah and obey me, 150 Do not obey the orders of the transgressors 151 "Who make mischief in the land, and mend not (their ways)." 152 They said, 'Thou art merely one of those that are bewitched; 153 you are no different from a mortal like us. So produce a sign if you are truthful." 154 He said, "This is a she-camel. For her is a [time of] drink, and for you is a [time of] drink, [each] on a known day. 155 Do not cause her to suffer lest you become subject to the torment of the great day (of Judgment)." 156 But they cruelly slaughtered her - and then they had cause to regret it: 157 for the suffering [predicted by Salih,] befell them [then and there]. In this [story,] behold, there is a message [unto men,] even though most of them will not believe [in it]. 158 And lo! thy Lord! He is indeed the Mighty, the Merciful. 159
