The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
O thou shrouded in thy mantle, 1 Arise and warn, 2 And your Lord (Allah) magnify! 3 Thy raiment purify, 4 And banish all trepidation. 5 And show not favour, seeking wordly gain! 6 For the sake of thy Lord, be patient! 7 For when the trumpet is sounded, 8 So that is a tough day. 9 For the infidels, not easy. 10 Leave Me alone, (to deal) with the (creature) whom I created (bare and) alone!- 11 and to whom I have granted resources vast, 12 And gave him sons present before him. 13 I made things smooth and easy for him, 14 then he is eager that I should do more. 15 Never! For he is an enemy to Our signs! 16 [and so] I shall constrain him to endure a painful uphill climb! 17 Verily, he thought and plotted; 18 and woe to him; how he plotted! 19 Again, death seize him, how he determined! 20 May he be condemned again for his schemes! He looked around, 21 Then he frowned and scowled, 22 Then turned he back, and grew stiff-necked. 23 said, "This (the Quran) is nothing but magic, inherited from ancient magicians. 24 This is not but the word of a human being." 25 I will cast him into the fire of Hell. 26 and what will teach thee what is Sakar? 27 It leaveth naught; it spareth naught 28 Darkening and changing the colour of man! 29 there are nineteen [angels] in charge of it -- 30 We have appointed only angels to be wardens of the Fire. We have specified their number only as a trial for those who are bent on denying the truth, so that those who were given the Book might gain in certainty, and those who believe might increase in faith -- and so that neither those who have been given the Scripture nor the believers might have any doubts, and that those sick at heart and those who deny the truth might ask, "What does God mean by this parable?" In this way, God lets go astray whom He wills, and guides whom He wills. And none knows the forces of your Lord but He. This is but a Reminder for man. 31
