The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Cloaked one, 1 Arise and warn 2 And proclaim the Purity of your Lord. 3 And your garments do purify, 4 And stay away from idols. 5 and do not think that by doing such deeds, you have done a great favor to God. 6 But, for thy Lord's (Cause), be patient and constant! 7 For when the trumpet blows 8 It will be a day of distress, 9 It will not be easy for those who deny the truth. 10 Let Me alone with him whom I created lonely. 11 And give him vast riches, 12 and children as [love's] witnesses, 13 And I adjusted affairs for him adjustably; 14 Yet he desires that I should give more. 15 By no means; he is stubbornly opposed to Our Signs. 16 Soon will I visit him with a mount of calamities! 17 Verily he considered, and devised. 18 And woe to him! How he plotted!- 19 Again, death seize him, how he determined! 20 He looked (at others); 21 And frowned and puckered his brow, 22 Then he turned back and was proud; 23 and said: 'This is no more than traced sorcery; 24 This is nothing but the word of a mortal!" 25 I will cast him into Hell-fire 26 And what will explain to thee what Hell-Fire is? 27 It leaves nothing, nor does it spare; 28 It strips away the hide of man. 29 Over it are nineteen. 30 We have appointed only angels to be wardens of the Fire, and their number have We made to be a stumbling-block for those who disbelieve; that those to whom the Scripture hath been given may have certainty, and that believers may increase in faith; and that those to whom the Scripture hath been given and believers may not doubt; and that those in whose hearts there is disease, and disbelievers, may say: What meaneth Allah by this similitude? Thus Allah sendeth astray whom He will, and whom He will He guideth. None knoweth the hosts of thy Lord save Him. This is naught else than a Reminder unto mortals. 31
