He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 because the blind man approached him! 2 What made you think that he will not grow in virtue, 3 Or become reminded so that the reminder should profit him? 4 As for him who is not in want of any thing, 5 to him thou attendest 6 though it is not thy concern, if he does not cleanse himself. 7 but as for him who came unto thee full of eagerness 8 And whereas he fears, 9 From him will you divert yourself. 10 These verses are a reminder 11 Let him who will, pay heed to it. 12 Inscribed in Writs honoured, 13 lofty and pure, 14 Written by the hands of emissaries. 15 noble and most virtuous. 16 Perish man! how ungrateful he is! 17 From what substance did He create him? 18 He created him from a living germ. He determined his fate 19 and then makes it easy for him to go through life; 20 then makes him to die, and buries him, 21 Then when He pleases, He will raise him to life again. 22 Nay, but man did not fulfil what Allah had enjoined upon him. 23 So man must look at his food. 24 We let the rain pour down in torrents 25 Then split the earth in clefts 26 And produce therein corn, 27 and grape vines and vegetables, 28 And Olives and Dates, 29 And dense gardens, 30 and fruits and pastures – 31 Provision for you and your cattle. 32 And when the Blast shall sound, 33 on that Day a man shall flee from his own brother, 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 his wife and his children. 36 for on that day everyone will be completely engrossed in his own concerns. 37 on that Day some faces will be beaming, 38 laughing and joyous 39 but others will be gloomy 40 Covered with the blackness (of shame): 41 Such will be the Rejecters of Allah, the doers of iniquity. 42
