The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the night enshrouding 1 By the Day as it appears in glory; 2 and That which created the male and the female, 3 Lo! your effort is dispersed (toward divers ends). 4 We shall facilitate the path to bliss 5 And believed the best matter to be true 6 We shall surely ease him to the Path of Easing; 7 And as for him who stinteth and is heedless, 8 and denied the Truth of goodness: 9 Surely We will ease his way unto adversity. 10 His wealth will not avail him when he falls into ruin. 11 Indeed, [incumbent] upon Us is guidance. 12 And truly, unto Us (belong) the last (Hereafter) and the first (this world). 13 I have warned you then about a raging Fire: 14 None shall enter it but the most unhappy, 15 who belied and turned away, 16 And away from it shall be kept the one who guards most (against evil), 17 Who giveth away his substance that he may be cleansed, 18 And no one has with him any boon for which he should be rewarded, 19 only seeking the Face of his Lord the Most High; 20 He will surely be well-pleased (with him). 21
