The tribe of Thamud also rejected the messengers. 141 Their brother Salih said to them: 'Will you not be cautious? 142 Truly, I am a trustworthy messenger for you, 143 "So fear Allah, keep your duty to Him, and obey me. 144 For this I ask of you no wage; my wage falls only upon the Lord of the Worlds. 145 Shall ye be left secure in that which is here before us. 146 In gardens and springs. 147 And corn-fields and palm-trees whereof the spathes are fine? 148 Will you still hew your dwellings in the mountains? 149 So fear Allah, and obey me. 150 and obey not the commandment of the prodigal 151 "Who make mischief in the land, and reform not." 152 They said: Thou art but one of the bewitched; 153 "Thou art no more than a mortal like us: then bring us a Sign, if thou tellest the truth!" 154 He said, "Here is a she-camel. She shall have her turn of drinking, as you have yours, each on an appointed day, 155 And do not touch her with harm, lest you be seized by the punishment of a terrible day." 156 But they hamstrung her, and in the morning they were remorseful, 157 and the punishment seized them. Surely, in that there is a sign. Yet most of them do not believe. 158 Verily Your Lord is Immensely Mighty, Most Compassionate. 159
