The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the setting star, 1 Your companion hath not gone astray, nor hath he erred. 2 Nor does he speak from [his own] inclination. 3 It is no less than inspiration sent down to him: 4 Which one of mighty powers hath taught him, 5 One strong of make. Then he stood straight. 6 While he was in the higher [part of the] horizon. 7 Then he drew near and hung above suspended, 8 until he was but two bow-lengths away, or even nearer. 9 So did (Allah) convey the Inspiration to His slave [Muhammad SAW through Jibrael (Gabriel)]. 10 The (Prophet's) heart lied not (in seeing) what he (Muhammad SAW) saw. 11 What! do you then dispute with him as to what he saw? 12 And certainly he saw him in another descent, 13 By the lote-tree of the utmost boundary, 14 Near it is the Garden of Abode. 15 When that covered the lote-tree which covered it. 16 Neither did sight falter nor exceed the bounds. 17 He certainly saw the greatest (signs) of the existence of his Lord. 18 So have you considered al-Lat and al-'Uzza? 19 And Manat, the third - the other one? 20 Are there sons for you, and daughters for Him? 21 That indeed is an unfair division -- 22 These are only names given by yourselves and your fathers. God has not given them any authority. They, (unbelievers), only follow mere conjecture and the desires of their souls, even though guidance has already come to them from their Lord. 23 Or shall man have what he wishes? 24 To Allah belong both the Next World and the present. 25
