And rehearse to them (something of) Abraham's story. 69 When he said to his father and his people: "What do you worship?" 70 They said: We worship idols, so we shall be their votaries. 71 He asked them, "Can the idols hear you when you pray to them 72 or benefit you or do you harm?" 73 They replied: 'No, but we found our fathers doing so' 74 He said: have ye observed that which ye worship 75 you and your forefathers -- 76 Surely they are enemies to me, but not (so) the Lord of the worlds; 77 who created me, and Himself guides me, 78 and Himself gives me to eat and drink, 79 "And when I am ill, it is He Who cures me; 80 who makes me to die and then revives me, 81 And Who, I hope, will forgive me my mistakes on the day of judgment. 82 "O my Sustainer! Endow me with the ability to judge [between right and wrong,] and make me one with the righteous, 83 And grant me an honourable mention in later generations; 84 And place me among the inheritors of the Garden of Pleasure. 85 And forgive my father; verily he is of the erring. 86 “And do not disgrace me on the day when everyone will be raised.” 87 the Day when nothing will avail, neither wealth nor offspring, 88 except for him who comes to God with a pure heart. 89 And the garden shall be brought near for those who guard (against evil), 90 whereas the blazing fire will be laid open before those who had been lost in grievous error; 91 and they will be asked: "Where are the gods that you worshipped 92 beside Allah? Can they be of any help to you, or even be of any help to themselves?" 93 Then they will be thrown headlong into Hell, both they and the misguided ones, 94 And the hosts of the Shaitan, all. 95 There they will quarrel with one another and the erring ones will say (to their deities): 96 they will say, "By God, we were in clear error 97 when we deemed you [false deities] equal to the Sustainer of all the worlds 98 yet they who have seduced us [into believing in you] are the truly guilty ones! 99 and we have no intercessors now, 100 no caring friend. 101 “So if only were we to go back, in order to become Muslims!” 102 Indeed in this is a sign; and most of them were not believers. 103 Your Lord is certainly Majestic and All-merciful. 104
