The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)

In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When the forthcoming event does occur. 1 Then none will be able to deny its occurrence. 2 Abasing (one party), exalting (the other), 3 This will happen when the earth is shaken, shaken 4 The mountains bruised and crushed, 5 Turned to dust, floating in the air, 6 You will become three categories: 7 Thus, there shall be such as will have attained to what is right: oh, how [happy] will be they who have attained to what is right! 8 The people of the left hand - those whose books of records will be placed in their left hands. How miserable they will be! 9 The foremost ones (in faith and virtue) - the foremost ones in receiving their reward. 10 Who will be honoured 11 In Gardens of Delight. 12 A multitude of those of old 13 and how few of the later folk) 14 on lavish couches 15 facing one another. 16 Immortal youths will wait upon them 17 with goblets, and ewers, and a cup from a spring 18 (no brows throbbing, no intoxication) 19 they will also go about them with the fruits of which they may choose, 20 and the meat of any bird that they may desire; 21 and wide-eyed houris 22 as the likeness of hidden pearls, 23 The reward for what they did. 24 Therein they hear no vain or sinful discourse. 25 All talk will be sound and upright. 26 And those on the right hand; what of those on the right hand? 27 Amid thornless lote-trees, 28 And banana-trees (with fruits), one above another. 29 And a shade ever-spread. 30 near to flowing water 31 and an abundance of fruits, 32 Unending, unforbidden, 33 And on Thrones (of Dignity), raised high. 34 Perfectly We formed them, perfect, 35 And made them virgins, 36 Loving companions matched in age, 37 For the sake of the companions of the right hand. 38

When reading the Colorful Quran in English transliterated Arabic mode, you may not notice that there is an algorithm designed to match the pause requirements of the original Arabic scripture, (waqf signs). As you may know, the original Arabic Quran has five main types of pauses, (waqf) signs. (1) Compulsory break, where the transliteration uses a full stop. (2) Optional pause with the preference for pausing, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a probability of two thirds. (3) Optional stop with an equal preference for pausing and resuming, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a half-half probability. (4) Optional pause with the preference for resuming, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a chance of one third. (5) Attraction pause, also called hugging, or (mu’anaka) sign, where it is compulsory to pause at either one of two nearby positions, but not both; where the transliteration inserts a comma at either one of the two locations with a half-half probability.
