The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ What are they asking (one another)? 1 Of the mighty tiding 2 whereon they are at variance. 3 Indeed, they shall know! 4 again, no indeed; soon will they come to know. 5 Have We not made the earth an even expanse? 6 And the mountains as stakes? 7 And We have created you in pairs (male and female, tall and short, good and bad, etc.). 8 and We appointed your sleep for a rest; 9 And made the night a cover. 10 And made the day for seeking livelihood. 11 And (have We not) built over you the seven firmaments, 12 And placed (therein) a Light of Splendour? 13 And sent down, from the rain clouds, pouring water 14 to make the seeds, plants, 15 And gardens of entwined growth. 16 Indeed, the Day of Decision is an appointed time, 17 It is a Day whereon the trumpet will be blown, and ye will come in multitudes. 18 The heavens will have openings like doors. 19 And the mountains will be moved – they will therefore become like mirages. 20 Verily the Hell is an ambuscade: 21 For the transgressors a place of destination: 22 where they shall remain for ages, 23 and where they will taste neither coolness nor any drink 24 Except hot boiling water and hot pus discharged from the people of hell. 25 An exact recompense (according to their evil crimes). 26 for they never expected to be called to account, 27 having given the lie to Our messages one and all: 28 And everything We have recorded in a book. 29 So taste (of that which ye have earned). No increase do We give you save of torment. 30
