The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ What do they question each other about! 1 They quarrel about the great news 2 Concerning which they are in disagreement. 3 Surely yes, they will soon come to know! 4 Nay, again, but they will come to know! 5 Have We not made the earth an expanse, 6 And the mountains as pegs? 7 Have We not created you in pairs, 8 and gave you repose in sleep, 9 and the night as a cover, 10 And We have made the day for seeking livelihood. 11 Have We not made seven strong heavens above you, 12 And placed (therein) a Light of Splendour? 13 And We send down from the clouds water pouring forth abundantly, 14 that We may bring forth with it grain, plants 15 And gardens of thick foliage. 16 The Day of Judgment will certainly be the final appointment. 17 The Day the Horn is blown and you will come forth in multitudes 18 And the heaven will be opened – it therefore becomes like gates. 19 And the mountains are removed and will be [but] a mirage. 20 Surely hell lies in wait, 21 For the exorbitant a receptacle. 22 They will remain in it for ages. 23 Finding neither sleep nor any thing to drink 24 Save a boiling fluid and a fluid, dark, murky, intensely cold, 25 Reward proportioned (to their evil deeds). 26 for they never expected to be called to account, 27 And rejected Our signs as lies. 28 And everything We have recorded in a book. 29 [So We shall say], "Taste, then, [the fruit of your evil doings,] for now We shall bestow on you nothing but more and more suffering!" 30
