A 'araaf (Al-A 'araaf)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ Alif Lam Mim Suad. 1 A DIVINE WRIT has been bestowed from on high upon thee - and let there be no doubt about this in thy heart - in order that thou mayest warn [the erring] thereby, and [thus] admonish the believers: 2 Follow what has been revealed to you from your Lord and do not follow guardians besides Him, how little do you mind. 3 And how many a township We have destroyed, upon them Our violence came at night or while they were taking their midday rest. 4 Then naught was their cry when Our violence came upon them save that they said: verily we have been the wrong-doers. 5 (On the Day of Reckoning) We shall question the people to whom We had sent Our apostles, (if they followed their teachings), and will question the apostles. 6 Then surely We will recount unto them with knowledge, and We have not been absent. 7 The weighing on that Day will be the true weighing: those whose scales are heavy will prosper. 8 and those whose scales are light will be the losers, for they, are the ones who have been unjust to Our signs. 9 And We have given you (mankind) power in the earth, and appointed for you therein livelihoods. Little give ye thanks! 10
