AND WHEN the messengers [of God] came to the house of Lot, 61 He said: Lo! ye are folk unknown (to me). 62 'No' they replied: 'We bring you (news) of that concerning which they were doubting. 63 and we are bringing thee the certainty [of its fulfilment]: for, behold, we are speaking the truth indeed. 64 "So leave with your family late in the night, yourself remaining in the rear, and let none turn back to look, and go where you will be commanded." 65 And We decreed for him that commandment, that the last remnant of those should be cut off in the morning. 66 And the people of the city came rejoicing. 67 Exclaimed [Lot]: "Behold, these are my guests: so put me not to shame, 68 Fear God and do not shame me." 69 They said, “Had we not forbidden you from meddling in the affairs of anyone?” 70 He said, "Here are my daughters, if you must act in this way." 71 Verily by your life they were utterly confused in their (lustful) drunkenness. 72 Then the mighty Blast caught them at sunrise, 73 And We turned (the cities) upside down, and rained down on them brimstones hard as baked clay. 74 Herein are really signs for those who discern. 75 And verily! They (the cities) were right on the highroad (from Makkah to Syria i.e. the place where the Dead Sea is now). 76 Verily there is a Sign in this for the believers. 77 And the Companions of the Wood were also wrong-doers; 78 We afflicted them with punishment. Both people had clear (divine) authority among them. 79
