The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
Recite in the name of your Lord Who created, 1 Hath created man from a clot! 2 Read and your Lord is Most Honorable, 3 who, by the pen, taught the human being: 4 taught the human what he did not know. 5 By no means: Verily man exorbitateth. 6 because he thinks that he is independent. 7 Indeed, to your Lord is the returning. 8 Have you seen the one who forbids 9 A slave when he prayeth? 10 What will happen if the praying person is rightly guided 11 He would enjoin piety, so how good it would be! 12 Hast thou considered whether he may [not] be giving the lie to the truth and turning his back [upon it]? 13 does he not know that Allah sees? 14 And yet indeed if he does not desist We shall drag him by the forelock, 15 A lying, sinful forelock! 16 So let him now call his gang! 17 We too would summon the braves of the army. 18 No! Do not obey him. But prostrate and draw near [to Allah]. ۩ 19
