The Night (Al-Layl)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
By the night, when it envelops, 1 and the day in splendour 2 And Him Who hath created male and female, 3 Indeed, your efforts are diverse. 4 So for one who gave and practised piety 5 And believes in the best [reward], 6 We will facilitate for him the easy end. 7 And as for him who stinteth and is heedless, 8 And rejects the best, 9 We shall pave his way to hardship, 10 and his wealth shall be of no avail to him when he perishes. 11 BEHOLD, it is indeed for Us to grace [you] with guidance; 12 And verify Ours is both the Hereafter and the life present. 13 I have warned you about the fierce blazing fire 14 where none shall burn except the most wicked, 15 who denied [the truth], and turned away. 16 But save him who fears 17 He who spends his wealth for increase in self-purification, 18 not as payment for favours received, 19 but only to seek the good pleasure of his Lord Most High. 20 surely, he shall be satisfied. 21
