The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
The Hour of Doom is drawing near and the moon is rent asunder. 1 And if they behold a sign, they turn away and say: magic continuous 2 for they are bent on giving it the lie, being always wont to follow their own desires. Yet everything reveals its truth in the end. 3 there has come to them many a tiding wherein there are warnings, 4 far-reaching wisdom [was held out to them]: but [since] all warnings have been of no avail, 5 So turn away from them, (O Prophet). On the Day when a caller shall call them to a thing most terrible, 6 Their eyes cast down, going forth from their graves as if they were scattered locusts, 7 Rushing towards the caller; the disbelievers will say, “This is a tough day.” 8 ۞ The folk of Noah denied before them, yea, they denied Our slave and said: A madman; and he was repulsed. 9 So he prayed to his Lord: "I am helpless, deliver me." 10 And so We caused the gates of heaven to open with water pouring down in torrents, 11 And We caused the earth to gush forth with springs. So the waters (of the heaven and the earth) met for a matter predestined. 12 but him We bore on that [vessel] made of [mere] planks and nails, 13 That ran (upon the waters) in Our sight, as a reward for him who was rejected. 14 And We left it as a sign, so is there any who will remember? 15 How terrible was My torment and the result of (their disregard) of My warning. 16 And assuredly We have made the Qur'an easy for admonition; is there then any one who would be admonished? 17 And there belied the A'ad; so how dreadful have been My torment and warning! 18 We sent a tumultuous wind against them on a day of unremitting misfortune, 19 Sweeping men away as though they were uprooted trunks of palm-trees. 20 How then were My punishment and My warnings! 21 And in truth We have made the Qur'an easy to remember; but is there any that remembereth? 22
