The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
By the Mount Sinai, 1 And the Book written 2 On an open record. 3 by the much-frequented House, 4 and by the lofty vault of the sky, 5 Consider the surf-swollen sea! 6 Lo! the doom of thy Lord will surely come to pass; 7 No one can avert it. 8 On the day when the heaven shall move from side to side 9 And the mountains move away with (awful) movement, 10 Woe, then, on that Day to those who give the lie (to this Message) 11 all those who [throughout their lives] but idly played with things vain 12 A day when they will be pushed, forcibly shoved towards the fire of hell. 13 This is the fire which you used to deny. 14 Is this magic, or do ye not see? 15 “Enter it – now whether you patiently bear it or are impatient – it is the same for you; for you is a recompense only for what you used to do.” 16 Truly, the God-fearing will dwell [on that Day] in gardens and in bliss, 17 Happy because of what their Lord hath given them, and (because) their Lord hath warded off from them the torment of hell-fire. 18 (It will be said): 'Eat and drink with a good appetite because of that which you did' 19 They will recline on couches arranged in rows and We shall couple them with maidens with large, lovely eyes. 20 And those who believed and whose descendants followed them in faith - We will join with them their descendants, and We will not deprive them of anything of their deeds. Every person, for what he earned, is retained. 21 And We provide them with fruit and meat such as they desire. 22 They will therein snatch from one another a cup; therein will be neither vain babble nor sin. 23 ۞ And they will be waited upon by [immortal] youths, [as if they were children] of their own, [as pure] as if they were pearls hidden in their shells. 24 And some of them draw near unto others, questioning, 25 Saying: "Aforetime, we were afraid with our families (from the punishment of Allah). 26 God has been gracious to us and has saved us from the torment of Hell's intense heat -- 27 "Truly, we did call unto Him from of old: truly it is He, the Beneficent, the Merciful!" 28
