He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man (i.e. 'Abdullah bin Umm-Maktum, who came to the Prophet (Peace be upon him) while he was preaching to one or some of the Quraish chiefs). 2 How canst thou know, whether haply he might be cleansed, 3 or yet remember, and the Reminder profit him. 4 As to one who regards Himself as self-sufficient, 5 To him you attend; 6 And you have nothing to lose if he does not become pure. 7 But as for him who cometh unto thee with earnest purpose 8 And he fears, 9 Of him you are neglectful and divert your attention to another, 10 NAY, VERILY, these [messages] are but a reminder: 11 Therefore let whoso will, keep it in remembrance. 12 [It is recorded] in honored sheets, 13 exalted and purified, 14 By the hands of scribes. 15 Honourable and obedient. 16 Accursed be man! How stubbornly he denies the Truth. 17 From what thing did He create him? 18 Of a drop of seed. He created him and formed him according to a measure. 19 and then makes it easy for him to go through life; 20 Then He causes his death and provides a grave for him. 21 Then He will raise him up again when He please. 22 Yet man declines to do His bidding. 23 Let man look at his food: 24 We let the rain pour down in torrents 25 and let the earth to break open 26 Then We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 And grapes and fodder, 28 And Olives and Dates, 29 And gardens, dense with many trees, 30 And fruits and grasses: 31 Provision for you and your cattle. 32 And when the Blast shall sound, 33 That Day shall a man flee from his brother, 34 his mother, his father, 35 And his wife and his sons; 36 Everyone on that Day will have affairs to keep him occupied. 37 [Some] faces, that Day, will be bright - 38 laughing, and rejoicing, 39 some faces on that day shall be dusty 40 and covered by darkness. 41 Those, they are the unbelievers, the immoral. 42
Allah Almighty has spoken the truth.
