The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Recite thou in the name of thy Lord Who hath created 1 Hath created man from a clot! 2 Read: And thy Lord is the Most Bounteous, 3 who taught by the Pen, 4 The One Who taught man all what he did not know. 5 Indeed, surely the human is very insolent 6 because he thinks himself self-sufficient: 7 truly, all will return to your Lord. 8 Bethinkest thou him who forbiddeth, 9 A bondman when he offers the prayer? 10 Have you seen if he is upon guidance 11 or orders piety? 12 Do you see how he has denied the truth and turned away from it? 13 Did he not know that God sees? 14 Nay! if he desist not, We would certainly smite his forehead, 15 his lying, sinful forelock. 16 Then let him call upon his henchmen! 17 We will now call the guards! 18 (Muhammad), never yield to him! Prostrate yourself and try to come closer to God. ۩ 19
