Drivers of the Winds (Al-Dhaareyaat)
60 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Dunes (Al-Ahqaaf) before Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the scatterers (the wind) scattering, 1 by the clouds which are heavily loaded with water, 2 And those that glide with ease (upon the sea) 3 And those [angels] apportioning [each] matter, 4 surely that you are promised is true, 5 and the Day of Judgment will inevitably take place. 6 By the beautiful heavens, 7 You are surely caught in contradictions., 8 From which only he turns who is turned away. 9 Woe to the liars 10 they who blunder along, in ignorance lost 11 They ask: "When is the Day of Judgement?" -- 12 [It will be] a Day when they will be sorely tried by the fire, 13 'Taste your trial. This is what you have sought to hasten' 14 The pious ones will live amidst gardens and springs, 15 Taking joy in the things which their Lord gives them, because, before then, they lived a good life. 16 They slept little in the night, 17 And in the dawns they prayed for forgiveness. 18 And in their property was a portion due to him who begs and to him who is denied (good). 19 And on the earth there are signs for those who would be convinced. 20 just as [there are signs thereof] within your own selves: can you not, then, see? 21 And in the heaven is your sustenance and what you are threatened with. 22 So by the Lord of heaven and earth, it is as surely true as that you have speech. 23
