Surely We have created man, and We know the promptings of his heart, and We are nearer to him than even his jugular vein. 16 When both receivers (the angels) receive, one on his right, the other on his left, 17 He utters not a word, but there is a vigilant watcher at hand. 18 And when the agony of death comes in truth (they will say): 'This is what you have been trying to avoid' 19 And the trumpet blast will sound: It would be the Day of Doom. 20 Each person will arrive attended by an [angel] to drive him on and another to bear witness. 21 'Thou wast heedless of this; therefore We have now removed from thee thy covering, and so thy sight today is piercing.' 22 And his companion will say: this is that which with me is ready. 23 (And it is said): Do ye twain hurl to hell each rebel ingrate, 24 Preventer of good, aggressor, and doubter, 25 Who made [as equal] with Allah another deity; then throw him into the severe punishment." 26 ۞ His companion will say: Our Lord! I did not lead him into inordinacy but he himself was in a great error. 27 He will say: Do not quarrel in My presence, and indeed I gave you the threatening beforehand: 28 My word shall not be changed, nor am I in the least unjust to the servants. 29
