The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ When the Terror descends 1 Which is bound to happen undoubtedly -- 2 Abasing exalting. 3 When the earth is shaken 4 And the mountains will be crushed, blown to bits. 5 So that they become dust seattered. 6 And you shall be three sorts. 7 (First) those on the right hand; what of those on the right hand? 8 The people of the left hand - those whose books of records will be placed in their left hands. How miserable they will be! 9 And the preceders are the preceders. 10 (The foremost ones) will be the nearest ones to God 11 in the Gardens of Delight, 12 a good many of those of olden times, 13 And a few from those of later times. 14 They (will be seated) on gold-encrusted couches, 15 Reclining therein face to face. 16 Round about them will (serve) youths of perpetual (freshness), 17 With goblets, (shining) beakers, and cups (filled) out of clear-flowing fountains: 18 Wherefrom they get no aching of the head nor any madness, 19 And with fruit from that which they choose. 20 and such flesh of fowl as they desire, 21 and fair maidens with large, lustrous eyes 22 The like of the hidden pearls: 23 The reward for what they did. 24 Therein they shall hear no idle talk, no cause of sin, 25 Other than "Peace, peace" the salutation. 26 NOW AS FOR those who have attained to righteousness - what of those who have attained to righteousness? 27 (They will be) among thornless lote-trees, 28 and clustered bananas, 29 and amid the extended shade 30 and gushing water, 31 and fruits abounding 32 never-ending and unrestricted, 33 And on Thrones (of Dignity), raised high. 34 Surely We have made them to grow into a (new) growth, 35 and shall have made them virgins, 36 Beloved (by nature), equal in age,- 37 For the Companions of the Right Hand. 38
