Nay, verily: By the Moon, 32 And by the night when it withdraws, 33 And by the Dawn as it shineth forth,- 34 hell is certainly the greatest calamity. 35 A warning unto humankind 36 to whoever of you desires to go forward or lag behind. 37 Each soul is held in pledge for what it earns, 38 Save the fellows of the right. 39 In Gardens; they shall be asking, 40 concerning the sinners, 41 What has brought you into hell? 42 They will say, "We were not of those who prayed, 43 we fed not the needy, 44 And we used to enter into vain discourse with those who engaged [in it], 45 and the Day of Judgment we were wont to call a lie 46 until certainty came upon us [in death]." 47 The intercession of their intercessors shall not benefit them. 48 So what is the matter with them that they turn away from the advice? 49 As they were frightened asses 50 Fleeing from a lion! 51 Rather each one of them desires that he should be given open Books. 52 By no means! But they fear not the Hereafter, 53 No! Indeed, the Qur'an is a reminder 54 So whoever wills may heed advice from it. 55 But they will not remember except as God wills: He is worthy to be feared, and He is worthy of forgiving 56
