'Ad (people) belied the Messengers. 123 when their brother Hood said to them, 'Will you not be godfearing? 124 Surely I am a faithful apostle to you; 125 Fear Allah and obey me. 126 I ask no recompense of you; my reward is only with the Lord of the Universe. 127 "Do you build useless monuments on every mountain 128 And seek ye out strongholds, that haply ye may last for ever? 129 "And when ye exert your strong hand, do ye do it like men of absolute power? 130 So be fearful of God and follow me. 131 fear Him who has aided you with all that you know -- 132 Who has provided you with flocks and children 133 and with gardens and springs. 134 I fear the punishment of a terrible day for you. 135 They said: It is all one to us whether thou preachest or art not of those who preach; 136 your preaching is nothing but ancient legends and we shall not face any torment". 137 We will not be subjected to any chastisement." 138 So they rejected him; and We destroyed them. There is certainly a sign in that; but most of them would not believe. 139 And verily! Your Lord, He is indeed the All-Mighty, the Most Merciful. 140
