He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 What made you think that he will not grow in virtue, 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and the teaching might profit him? 4 Now he who waxes indifferent, 5 to him didst thou give thy whole attention, 6 though you are not to blame if he would not cleanse himself. 7 But as to him who came to thee striving earnestly, 8 And he fears, 9 From him thou art distracted. 10 NAY, VERILY, these [messages] are but a reminder: 11 So let whosoever will pay heed to it, 12 (It is) in Records held (greatly) in honour (Al-Lauh Al-Mahfuz). 13 Exalted, Purified, 14 [borne] by the hands of messengers 15 Honourable and Virtuous. 16 May (the disbelieving) human being be condemned! What makes him disbelieve? 17 From what has God created him? 18 From a (sperm) drop He created him and then determined him, 19 He makes his path easy for him. 20 Then causeth him to die, and burieth him; 21 then, He will raise him when He wills. 22 By no means he performed not that which He had commanded him. 23 Let the human reflect on the food he eats, 24 [how it is] that We pour down water, pouring it down abundantly; 25 And We split the earth in clefts, 26 Then We cause to grow therein the grain, 27 And grapes and vegetables 28 And olives and date palms, 29 And garden-closes of thick foliage 30 And fruits and grasses: 31 Provision for you and your cattle. 32 When the trumpet sounds, 33 upon the day when a man shall flee from his brother, 34 Mother and father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 For every man, that Day, will be a matter adequate for him. 37 Many faces will that day be bright, 38 laughing and joyful, 39 And many will be dust-begrimed, 40 and covered by darkness. 41 Such will be the Kafarah (disbelievers in Allah, in His Oneness, and in His Messenger Muhammad (Peace be upon him), etc.), the Fajarah (wicked evil doers). 42
