Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
Ha Mim! 1 By the manifest Book (this Quran) that makes things clear, 2 We revealed it on a Blessed Night, for We were intent on warning; 3 On that [night] was made clear, in wisdom, the distinction between all things [good and evil] 4 The command that We have been sending 5 As Mercy from thy Lord: for He hears and knows (all things); 6 Lord of the heavens and the earth and that between them, if you would be certain. 7 There is no deity save Him: He grants life and deals death: He is your Sustainer as well as the Sustainer of your forebears of old. 8 yet, they toy with their doubts. 9 Therefore keep waiting for the day when the heaven shall bring an evident smoke, 10 enveloping people. That will be a grievous scourge. 11 [They will say], "Our Lord, remove from us the torment; indeed, we are believers." 12 How shall the message be (effectual) for them, seeing that an Messenger explaining things clearly has (already) come to them,- 13 Whereas they had then turned away from him and said, “He is a madman, tutored!”? 14 Surely We will remove the punishment a little, (but) you will surely return (to evil). 15 The Day We will strike with the greatest assault, indeed, We will take retribution. 16 ۞ And indeed We tried before them Fir'aun's (Pharaoh) people, when there came to them a noble Messenger [i.e. Musa (Moses)], 17 saying, 'Deliver to me God's servants; I am for you a faithful Messenger, 18 Do not rise up against Allah, I come to you with clear authority. 19 and, behold, it is with my Sustainer - and your Sustainer - that I seek refuge against all your endeavours to revile me. 20 If you do not believe in me, at least keep away from me." 21 Moses addressed his Lord, saying, "Lord, these people are sinners". 22 [Allah said], "Then set out with My servants by night. Indeed, you are to be pursued. 23 (Cross and) leave the sea undisturbed. The (pursuing) hosts will surely be drowned," 24 They left - how many! of gardens and springs. 25 and fields of grain, and noble dwellings, 26 and [all that] life of ease in which they used to delight! 27 Even so; and We bequeathed them upon another people. 28 Neither did the heavens weep for them, nor the earth, nor were they granted respite. 29
