The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ When the sky is rent asunder, 1 hearing and obeying its Lord, as it must do; 2 And when the earth is flattened out, 3 And has cast out that within it and relinquished [it] 4 And obeys its Lord and it must. 5 [then,] O man - thou [that] hast, verily, been toiling towards thy Sustainer in painful toil - then shalt thou meet Him! 6 Then as for him who is given his book in his right hand, 7 He shall be reckoned with by an easy reckoning, 8 And will return to his family in joy! 9 But as for him who is given his book behind his back, 10 He will invoke (his) destruction, 11 And be thrown to scorching fire. 12 He verily lived joyous with his folk, 13 Never thinking he will return. 14 Yes! Verily, his Lord has been ever beholding him! 15 I do not need to swear by the sunset, 16 The Night and its Homing; 17 by the moon, in its fullness 18 [even thus, O men,] are you bound to move; onward from stage to stage. 19 What aileth them, then, that they believe not 20 And when the Qur'an is recited to them do not bow in adoration? ۩ 21 Nay, but the unbelievers are crying lies, 22 and Allah knows very well what they gather. 23 Therefore give them the glad tidings of a painful punishment. 24 unless it be such [of them] as [repent, and] attain to faith, and do good works; for theirs shall be a reward unending! 25
