The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ When the sky is rent asunder 1 And hearkens to its Lord and is dutiful, 2 And when the earth has been extended 3 and casts forth what is in it, and voids itself, 4 and hearkens to the command of its Lord, doing what it should. 5 O thou man! Verily thou art ever toiling on towards thy Lord- painfully toiling,- but thou shalt meet Him. 6 Then as to him who is given his book in his right hand, 7 shall have an easy reckoning 8 And will return unto his folk in joy. 9 But as for him who is given his book behind his back, 10 He shall call for perdition, 11 And will go into the blazing fire. 12 Verily, he was among his people in joy! 13 thinking he would never revert (to Us). 14 Why not? His Lord was always watching him. 15 I swear by the twilight; 16 and the night, and what it [step by step] unfolds, 17 And by the moon when she becometh full. 18 You shall certainly travel from stage to stage (in this life and in the Hereafter). 19 But what is the matter with them that they do not believe, 20 and [that,] when the Qur'an is read unto them, they do not fall down in prostration? ۩ 21 No, the unbelievers only belie, 22 but God knows best whatever they accumulate in their hearts. 23 Wherefore announce thou unto them a torment afflictive. 24 Except for those who believe and do righteous deeds. For them is a reward uninterrupted. 25
