Thamud denied the messengers 141 When their brother Salih said to them, "Will you not fear Allah? 142 Indeed, I am to you a trustworthy messenger. 143 so fear God and obey me. 144 “And I do not ask from you any fee for it; my reward is only upon the Lord Of The Creation.” 145 Do you believe that you will be left here to live securely in the present state 146 In gardens and watersprings. 147 and cornfields, and palm-trees laden with fruit -- 148 Will you still skilfully hew houses out of the mountains? 149 So fear you God, and obey you me; 150 and pay no heed to the counsel of those who are given to excesses 151 Who work corruption in the land and rectify not. 152 They said, 'Thou art merely one of those that are bewitched; 153 “You are just a human like us; therefore bring some sign if you are truthful.” 154 Salih said: "This is a she-camel. There is a day set for her to drink and there is a day set for you to drink. 155 Do not molest her lest the chastisement of an Awesome Day should seize you." 156 Yet they hamstrung her, and then they became regretful: 157 So the torment took hold of them: verily herein is a sign, but most of them are not believers. 158 And verily thy Lord is He, the Exalted in Might, Most Merciful. 159
