The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
By the sun and its rising brightness 1 and by the moon as it follows it, 2 and by the day when it displays him 3 The night when it covers him over, 4 By the heaven and That which built it 5 And the earth and Him Who extended it, 6 And by Nafs (Adam or a person or a soul, etc.), and Him Who perfected him in proportion; 7 And inspired in it the knowledge of its sins and its piety. 8 prosperous is he who purified it, 9 and failed is he who buried it! 10 Thamud denied [their prophet] by reason of their transgression, 11 when the most corrupt of them incited them (to commit evil). 12 And the messenger of Allah said: It is the she-camel of Allah, so let her drink! 13 But they denied him and hamstrung her. So their Lord brought down upon them destruction for their sin and made it equal [upon all of them]. 14 He does not fear the result (of their destruction). 15
